What does Prospect Therapy mean?

From the very beginning, it was always the vision that Prospect Therapy was going to be more than just a solo private practice. So I didn't want to name my business after myself; I wanted it to be more than me! (Even though it did take a long time until it wasn’t just me…) When it came to choosing a name, it was important to me that I had a word that was evocative of opportunity and becoming.

Prospect was exactly what I was looking for.

The word prospect has a variety of meanings, including personal ones, and so many of them aligned perfectly with my goals:

Prospect (noun): a potential or likely candidate. This definition of the word taps into the peace and understanding that we inspire in every client. As real-live human adults, we are constantly becoming, but only what we are meant to be. Sometimes that means giving up previous visions of ourselves. Even when it's disappointing, grieving things we thought were meant for us is part of our growth. When you find the right fit, everything else starts to work out too.

Prospect (noun): the view after traveling a great distance. Sometimes we think we have so far to go, that we forget all the shit we had to go through to get here. This is exactly the journey most people take when they begin going to therapy. This work isn’t always easy, but we want to evoke the idea that there is purpose in wherever you are. Prospect comes from the Latin word prospectus, which means forward looking. Yes, we want to forge ahead. But there is so much value in looking back over where you've come from, too.

Prospector (noun): someone who searches single-mindedly for something of utmost value. During ye olde Gold Rush (Eureka!), the gold mining prospectors had to believe over all else that there was a payoff for all of their irrational, obsessive, difficult, and honestly really alienating work. At Prospect Therapy, we know that YOU are the gold worth mining. We believe in the value of each and every one of our clients. Every person who works here believes in your value. You are never an afterthought here.

Prospect (noun): a dorm at Mount Holyoke College. In a personal nod, Prospect was also the name of a dorm on my college campus in Massachusetts. It seriously had the best brunch. But beyond the waffles, going to #mountholyoke was one of the top three best decisions of my life.

The name Prospect Therapy still resonates as relevant and true as it did when it was just “Sara’s Solo Practice.” As we grow, however, we want to make sure our visual brand represents the values we live out every day. Our logo and new brand is what’s next for us.

Our logo

Growth is not lateral. When you take the leap to care for one aspect of your life, that growth and unbridled energy creates a ripple effect throughout your entire life.

This logo includes a trishula, a sharp and capable weapon in Eastern traditions associated with a trinity that evokes creation, preservation, and destruction. Emergence and loss go hand in hand, and we encourage people to embrace their dark side as well as their light. The Prospect Therapy trishula leverages the idea of championing your own self-awareness as a tool to ward off negativity, destroy the things not serving you, and start anew.

We hope our logo evokes organic growth, cyclical possibility, and a little bit of an edge.

Therapy in Long Beach Logo

As plants grow, they never vine out in a straight line. There is nuance and depth as the tendrils expand in paths you never could have imagined. This organic type of expansion is evocative, un-gendered, hopeful, and beautiful. Every shift and shade of new colors is a brand new hue that’s been slowly built through time, experience, and a little bit of magic.

Prospect Therapy is personal. Powerful. Playful. There are big things and little things to notice along the way, and they all have value.

Our brand values:

  • Welcoming: Bring your whole. Entire. Self. Prospect Therapy is the place where outsiders feel like insiders. We take you seriously. We respect you.

  • Vibrant: We unapologetically celebrate the full spectrum of human being and human kindness. You aren’t an afterthought — we thought of you first.

  • Intuitive: People are dynamic. Our approach is guided by a shared thread of honoring growth, discovery, and a natural progression of care.

  • Crafted: No conveyor belt therapy here. Every experience is curated and tailored. We don’t need to compete in “similar” circles. We just stand out.

  • Proud: our therapists are phenomenal, and brim over with a wealth of expertise, lived experience, and a deeply seated passion for our work.

We are honored to share our growth as a team with you, and we cannot wait to be a part of your journey of growth as well.
